Blocking attacks with the SASE solution developed by Palo Alto Networks making extensive use of AI

Kazutoshi Wada of Palo Alto Networks warns that as recent cyberattacks have evolved with the use of AI since 2021, according to his company’s survey, losses from business email scams have reached around $2.4 billion and those from ransomware around $1.2 billion, while damages continue to grow. He pointed out that in the current era, with many kinds of information scattered in diverse places, and all kinds of people accessing the information from all over, it is no longer possible to protect security in any one place. He stressed the importance of Zero Trust (Never Trust, Always Verify).
Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) and Security Service Edge (SSE) play a significant role to realize “Zero Trust.” An SASE solution provided by Palo Alto Networks is Prisma SASE. Not only does it bring together multiple security functions in a simple and highly integrated package, but all these functions have been designed and developed by Palo Alto Networks.
As a recent trend, Mr. Wada pointed to the growing sophistication of phishing attacks, and stressed the effectiveness of the diverse detection models devised by the machine learning functionality built into Prisma SASE. He expressed confidence “our in-house development strategy makes it all the more capable of quickly countering advanced attacks.”
Palo Alto Networks has enhanced capabilities of detection and response using AI extensively. For example, 3.5 billion new events are analyzed per day and are used as AI learning data. Mr. Wada said, “This SASE solution using AI detects 275,000 new attacks a day and blocks approximately 5 billion attacks.”
Paying attention to the trend of generative AI use cases, he assumes more important data is going to be stored on third party cloud servers. Mr. Wada emphasized that “Prisma SASE identifies in-house or outside generative AI tenants and also controls data uploading.”
