Delivering Asia's
Energy Transition

Conversations at Energy Asia in Kuala Lumpur to focus on collaborative efforts across Asian nations that can enhance energy security, promote renewable energy adoption, deploy decarbonisation solutions, facilitate technology transfer, as well as catalyse economic growth and socio-economic development.

The world is at a critical juncture, facing the pressing need to address the worsening impact of climate change and move towards a sustainable future. Asia, accounting half of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, plays a crucial role in this endeavour.

Home to almost two-thirds of the global population, Asia contributes 60% of global economic growth in 2024. With growing affluence, rapid urbanisation and urgent need for poverty alleviation, the issues of a just and responsible energy transition are most acute in Asia where 85% of the energy consumed comes from fossil fuels and the region’s demand for energy is projected to double in 2030.

With energy security a priority for most Asian nations, governments and industries formulating energy transition policies and strategies must strike the right balance between accelerating climate actions and ensuring economic resilience. Notwithstanding, transitions in the developing world and emerging economies must be rooted on access and affordability.

In this context, Energy Asia by PETRONAS and Knowledge Partner, CERAWeek by S&P Global serves as a catalyst for advancing the region’s net-zero ambitions by bringing together policymakers, industry captains, energy professionals, financiers and technology proprietors through actionable solutions for a just and responsible energy transition.

Scheduled to be held on 16 to 18 June 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, the Conference will advance conversations on how emerging and developing economies navigate the delicate balance of meeting ambitious energy goals and the economic realities that underpin them under the theme ‘Delivering Asia’s Energy Transition’.

“Energy Asia is a call for accelerated action to drive impactful change across the energy landscape”, commented Datin Arni Laily Anwarrudin,
Senior General Manager, Energy Asia and Strategy, Planning and Governance, Group Strategic Relations and Communications, PETRONAS.

Differentiating itself from other thought leadership events, Energy Asia commits towards driving pragmatic solutions by addressing issues directly relevant to Asian industries and communities grappling with the challenges of energy transition.

Additionally, the Conference aims to bridge the gap between emerging economies and developed markets through cross sector and cross border collaborations, ensuring the energy discourse is inclusive and beneficial to all.

“As a major energy market and driver of global growth, Asia has the potential to decarbonise its economy. However, oil and gas players will not be successful in driving the transition alone. Public and private sector collaborations is key to drive transformation of the energy landscape and supporting ecosystems”, said Arni.

“These challenges present opportunities, and through Energy Asia we hope to bring thought leaders and industry captains together and deliver actionable solutions to realise multilateral solutions needed for both Asia and the world to move closer to a net zero future that is just and responsible”, she added.

Arni further remarked that PETRONAS has been actively hosting a series of Multi-Stakeholder Dialogues in key Asian markets to stock take diverse perspectives on the transition under the theme, ‘Equitable Energy Transition in Emerging Economies’.

“Attended by regional policymakers and industry captains, the dialogues are centred around meeting the energy needs for developing and emerging markets and will contribute towards shaping the discourse at Energy Asia 2025”, she said.

Energy Asia is set to showcase 180 internationally renowned speakers from various economic sectors, as well as attract more than 4000 delegates from around the world.

The second iteration of the Conference will feature seven key themes across its Executive Conference and Energy Park programme namely, Economics, Policy and Geopolitics; Future of Energy Markets and Company Strategies; Power Markets in Transition; Technology, Innovation and Circularity; Capital Markets; Climate and Sustainability and Talent and Capabilities.

New for 2025 are the Energy Asia Awards, an initiative to recognise outstanding achievements and leadership among innovators and organisations in advancing a just energy transition while putting people and communities at the heart of the transition through two categories, namely Eureka Award and Trailblazer Award.

Another addition to the programme is the Future Energy Leaders - a regional impact community dedicated to empowering the next generation of energy leaders with comprehensive understanding of the global energy transition.
